It's More Fun In Costume!

The National Costumers Association was organized on August 24, 1923, bringing together a small group of costumers dedicated to upgrading and promoting the costume industry. Through the years both the association and the industry have grown in size and scope.

Our History

We have been together for almost 100 years, supporting the costuming industry all over the nation!

Our Mission

The National Costumers Association is a professional organization promoting the artistic, historical, educational, and social nature of costuming, encouraging ethical business standards.

Our Events

In addition to social and regional events, The NCA hosts an semi-annual costume convention. Every other year the convention is hosted by a new city. Some of the past convention sites have been: Nashville, Charlotte, Denver, Las Vegas, San Jose, Indianapolis, and Louisville to name a few.

Skeets Mayo Costume Co.

Dear Madam or Sir,

My father was George Washington "Skeets" Mayo. He was ne of the original Vaudeville performers and was with Neil O'Brian, Dan Fitch and Lasses White Minstrels among others.

Skeets opened a tap dancing school in Memphis, Tn. in 1921. The famed Peabody Hotel gave him the top floor to use for this purpose free of charge.

In 1931, he opened Skeets Mayo Costume Company in Nashville, Tn. and at one time was the thirteenth largest costumer in the US.

Skeets was a 32nd Degree Scottish and York Rite Mason and was committed to the most ethical of business practices with a character beyond reproach. He was one of the oldest members of your organization and enjoyed many years of friendship with those, to which he was well acquainted.

After my fathers death on April 7th, 1962, my mother Constance Fox Mayo continued the business.

Upon my mothers" retirement in 1079, an auction company was hired to sell the many treasured items which were part of the inventory.

My wish was to let the NCA know of my fathers efforts to promote the costuming industry and for the many years he continued this with zeal.

His chief seamstress was Mrs. Georgia Shelton with whom he had many years of professional friendship and costuming design.
