From Head to Toe, One Costume or Your Entire Show…
For more than three decades, that has been the scope of the inventory Curtains Up Costumes in Keota, Iowa, has offered professional and amateur theatre groups looking for high-quality, artistic costumes and props to enhance the theatre experience.
Sadly, COVID-19 has put an end to that 30-year run.
According to co-owner Lori Hammes, Curtains Up Costumes’ 10,000-square-foot location is going dark, which means the company is putting tens of thousands of full costume sets, individual costumes and accessories on the selling block—all at super discounted prices.
“It's been a rough six months for everyone, and unfortunately we haven’t been excluded. There haven’t been any shows since March, we haven’t sent out any invoices since February, and we don’t know if or when performances will start up again,” says Hammes. “We weren't able to find a reasonably priced storage space, so keeping the bulk of the inventory isn't going to be possible.”
Items for sale include costumes and accessories that Curtains Up Costumes has created over the years for major opera and theatre productions. Inventory includes time period-specific pieces from shows such as Carmen, Candide, Les Miserables, Alice in Wonderland and more.
Anyone interested in purchasing products can browse the gallery for a look at past shows—most of the costumes and accessories shown are for sale.
