Editor's Note: When costumers retire, they don’t really retire…they just find a new way to channel their creativity! Pam Markel, immediate past president of the NCA, is contributing a column to NCA Today that highlights the activities of retired members. In this edition, she describes the creative endeavors of Ken Epperly.
Our spotlight this week is retired member Ken Epperly of Magic Makers in Huntington, WV.
Ken Epperly may have retired from costuming, but he hit the ground running with a new creative endeavor. He started a polymer clay hobby which has turned into a business. Beginning with jewelry and branching into decorative items, Ken became well known in craft circles, and was journeyed into Tamarack, West Virginia’s premier artisan center. This is quite an honor to be accepted into this facility. His beautiful craft is also displayed at The Huntington Museum of Art.
Hypnotherapy has always been an interest to Ken. After taking a course in Hypnosis, he became certified by the National Hypnotist Guild. Not stopping there, he took an intense online course from the Mike Mandell Hypnosis Academy in Toronto Canada. Ken, continuing on, completed courses in Stage Hypnosis.
Did you know Ken Epperly was also a ventriloquist? He won first place at a magic convention with his act. Currently he is waiting for his two new figures to come, which he ordered from a ventriloquist who appeared on America’s Got Talent.
Ken wonders if he should attempt getting back on his unicycle at 68 years young.
